The last of the surviving prosecutors at the Nuremberg trials, Benjamin Ferenczz, has died at the age of 104. This was reported by the American television channel NBC , citing the son of the deceased.
When the process began, Ferenczz was only 27 years old. According to the channel, Ferenczz and his team managed to collect thousands of documents from the camps and other places in Berlin. Among them are reports on the actions of the Einsatzgruppen, the SS special forces. During World War II, these special forces exterminated around one million people in Europe. The papers found were used during the trial as proof of the guilt of the German military leaders. As a result, 14 people were sentenced to death. But in the end, only four of them were executed.
Benjamin Ferenczz played an important role on the international scene after the end of the Nuremberg trials. He was tasked with returning property seized by the Nazis to the owners. In addition, Ferenczz participated in the conclusion of an agreement on the compensation of Holocaust victims by the government of West Germany.
