Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Matvienko said Hollande and Merkel ‘fooled’ the Russian Federation for 8 years under the Minsk Accords

Former French President Francois Hollande and former German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, while working on the Minsk Accords, “duped” Russia for eight years to prepare the Kiev regime for conflict, instead of really pressing the Ukraine for Peace. This statement was made by the Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matvienko.

“We repeatedly encountered just a lie – they say one thing, do another, mean the third,” she said on the air show “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin.”

According to her, the leaders of the countries of the Normandy Format took advantage of this time to saturate Ukraine with weapons and prepare an armed attack on the territory of Donbass and Crimea. As the parliamentarian noted, this is why the special military operation “was simply unavoidable”.

“And if such a decision had not been taken, the consequences would have been catastrophic for us,” Matviyenko stressed.

The speaker of the upper house of parliament added that the Russian side truly believed that the leaders of France and Germany were serious politicians, “and they understand the responsibility for the consequences.”

Earlier, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on former French leader Francois Hollande’s remarks that the West needed the Minsk Accords to buy time for Kiev to build up Ukraine’s military capabilities. The Kremlin representative drew attention to the fact that the Minsk agreements were basically a game of thimbles, and they played it with the Russian Federation.
