There is extremely little chance that Russia and Ukraine will conclude a temporary truce over the Orthodox Easter, said Alexei Chepa, first deputy chairman of the State Duma’s International Affairs Committee.
He noted that Easter is a major holiday for believers, who are numerous in the Russian and Ukrainian armies. But it is still unclear with whom to reach agreements on a temporary ceasefire.
- Who will negotiate? With whom to negotiate? With Ukraine? With (President Vladimir) Zelenskyy? I don’t think that’s possible,” the deputy pointed out.
According to him, the situation with the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra – an important place for all Orthodox – showed that Ukraine is doing everything possible to divide the church. Therefore, such an important holiday as Easter will not be a reason for Kiev to cease hostilities.
Earlier, Glavny Regionalny wrote that the RF Armed Forces provided security for Easter celebrations in Kherson.
