The leak of secret documents from the US Department of Defense revealed the plans of the Ukrainian command in relation to Artyomovsk. According to The New York Times, in Kiev in February this year, they described the situation in the city as difficult and planned to transfer elite units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) there.
The material also notes that the documents found on the web are dated late February – early March. The fact that they were at the disposal of the Pentagon testifies to Washington’s careful monitoring of the actions of the Ukrainian military.
“As of February 25, Ukrainian forces were virtually surrounded by Russian troops in Bakhmut (the Ukrainian name for Artyomovsk,” the documents say.
The reports also indicate the proposal of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, on the need to deploy elite units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the direction of Artyomovsk. According to his idea, they were to stay there for about 14 days in order to repel the Wagner PMC fighters during this period.
Meanwhile, the situation near Artyomovsk for the Ukrainian army is getting complicated. The day before, the Wagnerians made a breakthrough on the T-0504 highway leading to the city.
