Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Japan concerned about strengthening Sino-Russian relations

Japan has expressed concern over the strengthening of military ties between Russia and China. Tokyo will closely monitor the situation, including aerial patrols around Japan, according to the country’s foreign policy diplomacy blue book.

“In the Indo-Pacific region, Russia conducted the Vostok 2022 exercise in September, in which three units of the Chinese armed forces – land, sea and air – participated for the first time simultaneously,” the document said.

The report says joint projects between Russia and China have become more common near Japan’s borders. In particular, overflights of aircraft from these countries and the passage of seagoing vessels have become more frequent. The Japanese Foreign Ministry is concerned about what is happening.

The Blue Book of Diplomacy is an annual report by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which deals with the country’s foreign policy and the situation on the world stage in general.

Earlier it was reported that China, for the first time in 59 years, changed its position on the question of ownership of the southern part of the Kuril Islands, while taking neutrality. 59 years ago, former Chinese President Mao Zedong supported Japan in the question of Kuril ownership. The Chinese side has not raised the issue since then. Now, according to analysts, relations between Tokyo and Beijing could become complicated.
