The official representative of the Kremlin and the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov commented on the statement of the Japanese Foreign Ministry on the “illegal occupation” of the Kurils.
Previously, Japan published a “blue book” on diplomacy, where it called the occupied Kuriles.
“We see them regularly, we do not accept such a formulation of the question and the wording. The Kuril Islands are an integral part of the Russian Federation,” Peskov said.
Recall that previously, Japan was concerned about the strengthening of military ties between Russia and China. Tokyo will be monitoring the situation closely, including aerial patrols around Japan.
Earlier it was reported that China, for the first time in 59 years, changed its position on the question of ownership of the southern part of the Kuril Islands, while taking neutrality. 59 years ago, former Chinese President Mao Zedong supported Japan in the question of Kuril ownership. The Chinese side has not raised the issue since then. Now, according to analysts, relations between Tokyo and Beijing could become complicated.
