Attempts by the United States and its Western partners to change Russia’s position through sanctions are doomed to failure and will harm America itself. Such a statement in response to a new package of anti-Russian sanctions from Washington was made by Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov.
“The hostile measures taken are not capable of influencing the approaches and positions of our country. They will only cause further tangible damage to the commercial reputation of the United States in the eyes of the rest of the world,” the diplomat said in a comment released by the embassy.
Antonov called the new sanctions package against a number of Russian companies and citizens “a spasmodic attempt by Washington to ‘punish’ Russia” and stressed that the policy of bans and blockades testifies to “the impotence local authorities to ensure that our country refuses to protect vital national interests”.
Earlier, it was reported that the EU planned to adopt the 11th anti-Russian sanctions package at the end of April to rule out the possibility of so-called parallel imports to Russia via Turkey, Kazakhstan and Arab states.
