About 18,000 cows died in an explosion at a dairy farm in the southern state of Texas, according to the US authorities, noting that one person was injured.
Pictures released by the police office showed a plume of black smoke billowing from the farm grounds.
For his part, Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller said in a statement that the accident is "The deadliest cattle ranch fire in Texas history"indicating that "Investigating it and prosecuting those responsible will likely take some time".

The explosion occurred on a dairy farm "South Fork" Near the town of Demet, one person was seriously injured, while the authorities believe that the machinery in the facility may have caught fire due to methane gas, according to the BBC.
Nearly three million animals died during farm fires across the United States between 2018 and 2021.
The Castro County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report of a fire on the farm around 19:21 last Monday.
