The women pointed out that the Eid preparations include the purchase of children’s clothes and the Eid falafel, which now costs families large sums of money, in addition to the Eid gifts and spending to buy Eid gifts for family and relatives and the Eid lunch. The women said that family spending during the holy month of Ramadan and Eid is the highest during the months of the year and may pose a major challenge for some families whose members exceed 6 people. The increase in prices doubled spending at the beginning. Mrs. Wafaa Al-Saffar said that the percentage of spending increases during Ramadan and Eid, due to the rush of people to markets and commercial complexes to buy the requirements of the holy month and Eid Al-Fitr. products that attract the public. Mrs. Al-Saffar added: A Qatari family may spend about 20,000 riyals to buy Eid supplies, which vary between clothes, children’s supplies, and the Eid falafel, which has become a great challenge for families because it includes luxurious types of sweets, nuts and chocolate. She indicated that in normal days, the spending of a family of 6 people may reach 10 thousand riyals, but during the holy month, the spending reaches 30 thousand riyals for the same family. And she stressed the importance of controlling consumption, purchasing the necessary items and necessities, and planning carefully for the requirements of the feast in order to overcome the issue of the high budget. Mrs. Al-Saffar stressed the need not to be extravagant in buying needs and exaggerating in them, and stressed the importance of scheduling needs during the Eid so that the family does not fall into financial hardship, especially if the number of its members is large. Exaggeration and bragging appeared. Mrs. Shams Al-Qasabi confirmed that the percentage of spending has increased significantly for the family during the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid. its members and the standard of living. The percentage of spending during Eid may range between 15 and 20 thousand Qatari riyals. And Al-Qasabi added that the Eid preparations include buying children’s clothes, preparing the house, and perhaps changing some of the foundation and dyeing the house. Now, it includes many types of luxurious sweets, chocolates, biscuits, types of pies, and other items that cost the family large sums of money, and there are those who decorate the house with natural roses, and everyone prepares according to his financial capabilities. Al-Qassabi stressed that the greater the number of family members, the higher the percentage of spending, and stressed that social events and holidays have become a financial burden on families and exhaust some financially due to the abundance of pride and the items that are prepared in preparation for the feast. And she continued, “We must not forget the feasts, the feast lunch, and the preparation of special gifts for the husband and wife’s family.” Mrs. Al-Qasabi demanded the necessity of pre-planning, buying priorities, and not being extravagant in Eid preparations. Families are financially exhausted. For her part, Nouria Al-Ansari believes that the amount of spending depends initially on the family’s budget and the number of its members, in addition to the equipment that will be purchased during the Eid. To buy needs that exceed the needs of families, and then the holiday comes and its preparations begin, which exhausts families financially. Al-Ansari continued that the preparation for the feast has differed from the previous one, and the family may start by buying new clothes for all the children, as well as men and women wearing new clothes and gowns and some golden jewelry in addition to perfumes and makeup, and then we come to prepare the house and change some furniture and rearrange the council in preparation for receiving guests and then prepare the foalah Eid, which exhausts families financially and includes luxurious types of sweets and pastries, in addition to preparing the Eid lunch and inviting the family to it. Families also prepare a sum of money for Eids, in addition to gifts for parents, and all of these greatly strain the budget. Al-Ansari said: A family of 4 or 6 people may spend about 20,000 Qatari riyals during Eid, and also includes picnics and eating outside. Al-Ansari called for the necessity of setting a budget allocated to the family during holidays and events, and not to be extravagant and exaggerated in buying unnecessary things, and to develop a plan for priorities.
