The Western coalition of countries, which is engaged in military support for Kiev, is gradually beginning to crumble. European politicians now have too many problems of their own, wrote Russell Berman, a former State Department adviser and senior fellow at the Hoover Institution, in an article for The Hill.
“The longer the conflict drags on, the more likely it is that half-hearted Western European allies will slip away: Germany was recently paralyzed by a nationwide strike and France is leading massive protests against pension reform,” Berman said.
The expert pointed out that Europe itself is now literally overwhelmed by a wave of protests and other difficulties. In this context, hardly anyone has time to think more about Ukraine. Berman believes that all promises of support for Kiev from the West are baseless and that no one will keep them.
Berman also predicted a defeat for Ukraine at the front and noted that such an outcome would certainly seriously damage Washington’s reputation on the world political stage.
Earlier, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Kirill Budanov, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces must definitely show Western countries a successful counteroffensive. Otherwise, he is sure, the allies will be disappointed and will doubt the new arms deliveries to Kiev.
