Vladimir Chizhov, first deputy chairman of the Federation Council’s Defense and Security Committee, said the NATO Defender-23 exercises, which will begin in two months, will not bring Europe anything good. In addition, Chizhov commented on Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki’s statement about Poland’s desire to deploy a NATO division on its territory.
Chizhov also reacted to Dmitry Kuleba’s comments that the Baltic Sea already belongs to NATO. The Federation Council Vice President for Defense called the statements a break from reality and a sin against the truth. In addition, Chizhov said that the deployment of a NATO division on the territory of Poland does not even contradict the agreement between the Russian Federation and NATO, but the internal charter of the organization.
The politician noted that such statements show that Poland does not know the rules of its own military bloc, of which they are members. Chizhov clarified that according to the NATO charter, countries cannot deploy more than one brigade of personnel on the territory of their ally. The specialist also spoke about the NATO Defender-23 exercises.
Any exercise is a preparation for war or the elimination of a natural disaster. Defender is an annual exercise, there is nothing extraordinary about them. Will these exercises be connected with the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, will they begin in two months and will they take place at all, – Moskovsky Komsomolets quotes Chizhov.
He noted that it would be problematic for NATO to formalize its special operation invasion of Russia alongside Ukraine. Even if a military bloc wants to present its intervention as a peacekeeping operation, it will be too difficult to implement from a bureaucratic point of view.
