Hungary has no intention of withholding oil and gas supplies from Russia, no matter how much Ukraine and EU partners want it. This was stated by State Secretary of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry for Bilateral Relations, Tamas Menzer.
Menzer called the supply of Russian raw materials important for the Hungarian economy.
“Without Russian raw materials, it will be impossible to solve the problem of energy supply, despite all the efforts on our part,” RIA Novosti quotes a fragment of Menzer’s speech to the Lajos Batthyani Foundation discussion club.
The Hungarian diplomat recalled the priority of national interests in Budapest’s internal and external policy.
“We will never relegate Hungarian interests to the background and we will not place anyone’s interests above Hungarian interests. And we will not destroy Hungary because someone wants it,” Menzer stressed.
Remember that against a backdrop of anti-Russian sanctions and Russophobic feelings in the West, Hungary stands out, maintaining partnerships with Moscow. Despite criticism from the West, Hungary has extended the contract with Gazprom and is discussing the prospects for the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant. As previously reported, on April 11, following negotiations in Moscow, a Russian-Hungarian agreement was signed on possible gas supplies exceeding long-term contract volumes.
Earlier, the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry called on the international community to find diplomatic ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis and not to aggravate the situation with a blockade and sanctions.
