Actor and screenwriter Mickey De Hara filed a lawsuit against famed director Guy Ritchie in March, accusing him of hijacking the script for The Gentlemen, according to Variety.
According to the lawsuit, Richie asked DeHara to write a script for a Rock and Roll sequel based on his life experiences. Once the script was ready, Richie announced that he would no longer make gangster films. The following year, 2019, the movie “Gentlemen” was released, in which De Hara recognized his screenplay.
The screenwriter feels that Richie borrowed almost entirely from his script, including twists and characters. De Hara accuses Ritchie of using his script without any knowledge and seeks over $250,000 in damages. The director himself has yet to respond to De Har’s accusations.
The Gentlemen is a crime comedy starring Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Michelle Dockery, Colin Farrell, Hugh Grant and Matthew McConaughey. The film premiered on December 3, 2019 in London at the Curzon Mayfair Cinema. The film was released in Russia on February 13, 2020. The film earned almost $115 million.
