French President Emmanuel Macron has enacted a pension reform law that has sparked protests in the country. The text of the document has been published in the official journal.
“French President Emmanuel Macron has enacted a law on pension reform, notably raising the legal retirement age to 64, according to the official newspaper on Saturday,” France Press quoted RIA Novosti.
From now on, the French retire at 62, but the reform involves a gradual increase in the retirement age to 64 by 2030.
Earlier, at least 112 people had been arrested in Paris over protests against pension reform. The Interior Ministry estimated that at least 4,000 people took part in the Paris protests.
