The head of PMC “Wagner” Yevgeny Prigozhin, in the program material on his blog, offered to stop the war in Ukraine, declaring his goals achieved. He believes that a long war could become a precondition for Russia’s collapse. Material published in the telegram link it is in the channel “Prigozhin’s Cap”, where the responses of its press service to media inquiries appear.
The text argues that a long war does not find support in Russian elites, they are referred to as the “deep state” in the article. “Many of those who supported the special operation yesterday are now in doubt, or adamantly against what is happening,” Prigogine writes. “The representatives of the deep state urgently want to return to their normal lives, their old habits and their comfort.”
According to him, the opponents of the war within the elites sabotage the decisions taken for the successful continuation of the war. “At meetings they are silent, express their doubts. And when making decisions on bureaucratic procedures, some actions aimed at winning are hampered.”
As Prigozhin writes, the imminent offensive of the Ukrainian army could end with a breakthrough of the front line (he called the option of the successful development of the Russian attack “on the borders of the DPR, the Dnieper or Poland” unlikely). “In this case, in the (Russian) army, which for years has considered itself one of the best armies in the world, decadent moods may begin at first, and then the situation deteriorates,” writes the head of the PMC .
According to him, such a development of events could lead to a social explosion that threatens all members of the elites, with the exception of the top Russian leaders: “the people are already looking for someone to be responsible for the fact that we are not the most strong in the world, and in this situation they will seek “extremes.” At the same time, it is clear from his words that he considers defeat in the war to be the best option for the development of events for the country that the conclusion of interim agreements establishing the status quo.
Prigozhin has been linked to the PMC Wagner since 2014, he denied it until September 2022. After acknowledging the link, he regularly speaks about the war in Ukraine, publishes his photographs of active combat zones and criticizes senior Russian officials. Wagner PMC units, despite reports of colossal casualties, are proving to be among the most combat-ready on the Russian side in the war in Ukraine. However, numerous sources regularly report conflicts between Prigozhin and the Ministry of Defense, which, among other things, lead to delays in the supply of weapons and ammunition.
In one of the released documents, presumably from US intelligence, it is alleged that Putin personally tried to reconcile Prigozhin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. Prigogine’s criticism of senior officials has yet to have a noticeable impact on their careers.
