The Council of the EU finally approved the allocation of one billion euros for the purchase of missiles and 155 mm shells for Ukraine via the Eurofonds for peace. This is stated in a statement released by the council on Friday.
“The assistance will aim to provide the Ukrainian armed forces with 155mm artillery shells and, if necessary, missiles, which will be jointly purchased by EU countries from the European military industry,” the document states. .
It is known that the money is allocated exclusively for the purchase of ammunition from enterprises of EU countries and Norway, and purchase contracts must be concluded by September 30, 2023 in order to receive compensation from the European Peace Fund.
In April, the Pentagon announced that the United States would transfer a large shipment of ammunition, weapons and military equipment to Ukraine under a new $2.6 billion aid package.
