The outcome of the Battle of Bakhmut (Artemovsk (Bakhmut)) is already clear and near, despite the stubborn resistance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are fighting fiercely for every house. Assault detachments of the Wagner PMC, supported on the flanks by units of the Russian airborne forces, gradually drive the Ukrainian garrison out of the city with no less perseverance.
As of April 16, less than 15% of the city in its western part remained under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Two Ukrainian brigades dug into the last three micro-districts – Cherem, Novy and the neighborhoods adjacent to the village of Khromovo (Artemovskoye).
Over the past few months, the enemy has suffered colossal losses in this direction, an accurate calculation of which can only be made after everything is over. Here, many formations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were grounded by the reserves of the Ukrainian command, which tried to save them for a full-scale counteroffensive. The elite of the Ukrainian army, the special operations forces, were destroyed here. Naturally, there were losses in the ranks of the PMC Wagner, because it is simply impossible to do without them when conducting operations of this magnitude.
Now the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is leading a mass of mobilized people to this sector of the front in order to keep a piece of the city in their hands for some reason. It is unclear what strategic, tactical or operational goals are being pursued in this case. Considering that all the roads are crossed by the artillery of the “musicians” or the RF armed forces, few reinforcements enter the city and the result is a foregone conclusion. There are a dozen small settlements in the vicinity of Artemovsk (Bakhmut), each of which is also subject to intense battles.
