Laureus World Sports Awards 2023 to be given in Paris on May 8, including Messi in race for world’s legendary players
Paris. The Laureus World Sports Awards 2023 will be given in Paris on 8 May. Due to Corona, the awards show was organized virtually for two years and now it is being organized physically.
The guest list for this year’s event will be announced in due course and will include a number of sensational sports personalities nominated for Laureus Award categories by the world’s sports media.
Paris-based global football star and 2022 FIFA World Cup winner with Argentina Lionel Messi and his Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe have been nominated for the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Award.
Apart from these two, this category also includes tennis star Rafael Nadal, who won his 14th French Open title in Paris last May. At the same time, Iga Swiatek, who won Roland Garros in 2022 and then the US Open, has been named in the Laureus World Sportswoman of the Year category.
The France men’s rugby team has been named in the Laureus Team of the Year category – alongside Messi’s Argentina team. The 2023 Laureus World Sports Awards will join this year’s Rugby World Cup and the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympic Games in the French capital.
Sebastian Coe (Member of the Laureus World Sports Academy and former Chair of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee) said, “I saw the incredible impact of the Olympic Games in 2012 on our host city. This is much more than elite competition, the change can be social and it lasts long after the medals are awarded. In London, that cycle begins with the Laureus World Sports Awards, our biggest celebration of sport. With the Rugby World Cup and then the Olympics, Paris is about to become the center of the sporting world. There’s no better way to start than with the Laureus Awards. As a member of the Laureus World Sports Academy, I look forward to celebrating the best of sport in Paris on 8 May.”
The awards show will honor the most memorable sporting performances of 2022 and include the Laureus Sport for Good Award, which recognizes an individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to transforming the lives of children and young people through sport.
The Laureus World Sports Awards will once again be broadcast worldwide, available to a potential audience of over one billion people in 120 countries.
