The ENT department offers a wide range of complete diagnostic and therapeutic services

Dr. Hossam Rumaih, an ENT consultant at Al Emadi Hospital, confirmed that ENT patients, in general, can fast without fear of health complications, after consulting a doctor and evaluating their health condition. He pointed out that some patients may face various problems during fasting, including severe infections in the throat, tonsils, upper respiratory tract, sinuses, and high temperatures, in addition to severe pain due to dry throat and the need to drink plenty of warm fluids, which may necessitate breaking the fast, especially in the event of a fast. Temperatures rise dramatically. He pointed out that some patients may be advised not to fast when their condition is severe and they need to take antibiotics and analgesics at close times, and to drink plenty of fluids so that complications do not occur that cause the patient’s health to deteriorate, and in some cases it may come to the patient’s need for saline fluids, and he may needs glucose. He added that patients with nosebleeds have different conditions, some of which are simple and emergency or rare, and some are recurrent and harmful, and according to the nature of the case, the doctor’s decision is made, and in certain cases the patient may be prevented from fasting for reasons related to the deterioration of his condition. He explained that inflammation of the tonsils and larynx, which is accompanied by suppurations that cause the patient’s temperature to rise, leads to severe pain in the throat and pharynx, and the pain may extend to the joints with difficulty swallowing and severe headaches, and the doctor may consider in that case that the patient should not fast until he recovers, as the patient needs painkillers. In close timing, antibiotics, warm fluids, and fever reducers. Regarding cases in which ear patients are advised not to fast, d. Rumaih: This category includes patients with severe dizziness or imbalance, as they suffer from a strong urge to vomit during the hours of fasting and cannot control it. He added that he advises patients who suffer from moderate infections of the nose, ear, and throat, and who are allowed by the doctor to fast, to eat easy-to-swallow foods such as soup, juices, fresh fruits and vegetables, complete rest, avoid carbonated water, ice cream, and spicy foods, and adhere to taking treatment during the period between breakfast and suhoor. He pointed out that with regard to surgeries related to the nose, ear, and throat, it is known that anesthesia breaks the fast, and therefore the patient on the day of surgery breaks the fast, and the condition is assessed after surgery to determine the possibility of fasting or not, as many surgeries in this specialty are considered operations One day, in which the patient leaves the hospital shortly after surgery.
