Following the shutdown of the last German nuclear power plants, Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (The Greens) underlined in an interview with the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers: “The security of energy supply in Germany has been guaranteed during this difficult winter and will continue to be guaranteed.” When asked if he could guarantee the reliability of the energy supply, the Vice-Chancellor replied in the affirmative.
“We have the situation under control thanks to high levels of gas storage facilities and new LNG terminals on the German north coast, as well as, last but not least, an increase in renewable energy sources,” said said Habek.
The last three German nuclear power plants were to be taken off the grid at the end of last year. However, due to the conflict in Ukraine and the resulting energy crisis, the traffic light coalition decided to keep all three reactors running through the winter. And on April 15, they were arrested forever.
Khabek has made it clear that he regards the abandonment of nuclear energy as final. Nuclear power stations “sooner or later will be demolished, and the construction of new nuclear power stations has always proved to be an economic fiasco – whether in France, Great Britain or Finland”.
According to him, German operators are also not interested in building new nuclear power plants. “Our energy system will be built differently: by 2030, we will have 80% renewable energy sources.
