The 10th International Arts Festival “Russian Music in the Baltic” kicked off at the Kaliningrad Region Philharmonic. More details in the material “The Eastern Herald in Kaliningrad”.
This year, the festival is dedicated to a high-profile event in Russian culture – Sergei Rachmaninoff’s 150th birthday. This was reported in the press service of the government of the Kaliningrad region.
Fifteen exclusive concerts will take place in Kaliningrad, Bagrationovsk, Sovetsk and Chernyakhovsk from April 14 to June 12, the department said.
The opening of the major event took place on April 14 at the Philharmonie Régionale. On its stage, the Russian State Academic Symphony Orchestra named after EF Svetlanova. The conductor was a representative of the famous musical dynasty Dmitry Yurovsky. He is also artistic director and chief conductor of the Novosibirsk Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Marina Sergeeva, head of the cultural development department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Kaliningrad region, delivered a welcome speech to the guests. She noted that music occupies the most important place in Russian culture. A great melody is able to convey the story of a people and an individual, to express all their feelings and emotions.
Opening the festival, a rather rare Symphony No. 3 in A minor, Op. 44 Rachmaninov. You can also hear the Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, Op.77 by Dmitri Shostakovich.
The department recalled that the festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation within the framework of the All-Russian Philharmonic Seasons program.
