A Novosibirsk court sentenced Sergei Yakushin, founder of the Necropolis funeral home and the Museum of World Funeral Culture (Museum of Death), who died last year. On this subject informed Bb.fm.
Yakushin was arrested in November 2021. He was charged with paying a bribe (part 5 of article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the investigation, for eight years Yakushin, through an intermediary, transferred bribes to the head of the pathoanatomical department of the city’s Clinical Hospital No. 1, Mikhail Kozyaev, so that he recommends that the relatives of the deceased organize a funeral through the Necropolis. In total, according to the documents of the criminal case, Kozyaev received 1.2 million rubles from Yakushin.
The pathologist pleaded guilty, entered into a pretrial agreement and was fined 4.5 million rubles. with a 5-year installment plan. Yakushin pleaded not guilty and called the criminal case a robber’s seizure. He claimed he had never paid a bribe in his life.
In July 2022, 69-year-old Yakushin died of stomach cancer. According to Sib.fm, his relatives insisted that the trial continue because they believed he would be found not guilty. However, the Zaeltsovsky District Court of Novosibirsk found Yakushin guilty, sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment and released him from the death penalty.
