The Qatar national football team will begin its campaign in the seventeenth edition of the 2023 Gold Cup, which will be hosted by the United States of America and Canada from June 24 to July 16, by facing Haiti on June 25 in Group Two competitions, according to the tournament match schedule issued by it. The North, Central American and Caribbean Football Confederation (CONCACAF) today.

Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament, distributed into four groups according to the draw that was drawn on the fourteenth of April in the US state of California, provided that the host and defending champion, the American team, will cut the competition ribbon in the opening confrontation against the Jamaican national team on June 24 at Solderfield Stadium. in the city of Chicago.

The draw placed the Qatari team, the Asian champion, who is participating in the tournament for the second time in a row at the invitation of CONCACAF, in the second group, along with the teams of Mexico, Haiti and Honduras, while the first group included the teams of the United States, Jamaica and Nicaragua, and the winner of the qualifying match No. 9.. and included The third group is the teams of Costa Rica, Panama and El Salvador, and the winner of the qualifying match No. 8, while in the fourth group came the teams of Canada, Guatemala and Cuba and the winner of the qualifying match No. 7, noting that the preliminary qualifiers will be held during the period from 16 to 20 June next.

The Qatari national team will face Haiti at NRG Stadium in Houston on June 25 in the first round of Group B competitions, before meeting Honduras on June 29 at State Farm in Glendale, California in the second round. Then the first round will end with a heavy-caliber confrontation with the Mexican national team on July 2 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California as well.

According to the tournament system, the two teams with the first and second places in the four groups will qualify for the quarter-finals, which will be held on July 8 and 9, while the semi-finals will be held on July 12, and the final match will be played on the 16th of the same month.

The Qatari national team had recorded a remarkable presence in its first appearance in the previous edition of the Gold Cup hosted by the United States of America in 2021, where it reached the semi-finals after topping Group A, overtaking El Salvador in the quarter-finals, before losing 1-0 to the home-owning American team. who was then crowned champion.
