G7 countries could completely ban exports to Russia

The G7 states are considering imposing a near total ban on exports to Russia. It is reported by Bloomberg. According to him, they want to apply a radical new approach to anti-Russian sanctions as early as the G7 summit in May.

Some of Ukraine’s main allies, including the United States, are considering moving closer to a total ban on most exports to Russia, which could add significant economic pressure on President Putin.

Bloomberg ratings.

At the same time, the agency stresses that the main objective of the summit of the leaders of the G7 countries will be to involve EU member states in anti-Russian sanctions.

This approach would reinforce the existing sanctions regime, which would ban all exports

  • notes the agency, recalling that any export is now authorized, unless sanctions are imposed on it.

However, as Bloomberg points out, on how to implement this idea, the authors of the innovation may encounter several obstacles at once.

First, a complete ban on exports to the Russian Federation must be approved by the leaders of the G7 countries.

Second, they must identify the products that will not be subject to the ban. First of all, we are talking about medicines and agricultural products.

Third, within the EU there will almost certainly be those who do not want to introduce a total ban on exports to Russia. Despite the restrictions already introduced, many European companies continue to supply their goods to the Russian Federation.

Finally, fourthly, and this seems to be the main point, a total ban on exports to Russia can bring Moscow even closer to China. And this is for the United States and its allies – like a sickle in a well-known place.
