US strategic Global Hawk drones no longer fly over the Black Sea after the Reaper drone incident. It is reported by RIA Novosti
The last flight of an American over the Black Sea off the coast of Crimea was recorded on March 21. Since the start of the special operation, American reconnaissance drones have taken off from Sicily and made an average of eight to ten flights per month in the area.
Between March 21 and April 20, US drones only took off three times from an airbase in Sicily, but they operated in Romanian airspace. This did not allow Global Hawk to use radar for reconnaissance in the Crimea due to the too great distance from the peninsula.
According to the agency’s interlocutor, the American command deemed it inappropriate to carry out new flights in the region for fear of losing an expensive drone equipped with the most advanced technology.
On March 14, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the crash of an American MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicle in the Black Sea. The aerial object was flying with a deactivated transponder and entered an area closed off by the Russian armed forces. According to the message from the Russian military department, the Russian fighters did not use airborne weapons, did not come into contact with the American UAV and safely returned to the airfield of origin.
Later, it was reported that the United States had resumed drone flights over the Black Sea after the MQ-9 Reaper crashed. It turned out that after that only two such flights took place.
