The Moscow Justice of the Peace imposed an administrative fine of 800,000 rubles Wikimedia Foundation Inc. for not removing information about the activities of an extremist organization from Wikipedia.
This is Wikimedia’s sixth fine in 2023 for failing to remove deletable content. The total amount of fines for six offenses attributed to the fund is 6.4 million rubles.
On April 20, the Tagansky District Court of Moscow fined the American Wikimedia Foundation (owner of Wikipedia) 1.5 million rubles for not removing the banned content. The reason for this was the article “Fight for Akhtyrka” – a Ukrainian city in the Sumy region.
Earlier, a deputy of the State Duma explained why he is asking for Wikipedia to be banned.
