Some of Ukraine’s main allies, including the United States, are considering imposing a near-total ban on exports to Russia. It is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.
According to the news agency, officials from G7 countries are discussing the possibility of a “comprehensive ban on most exports” to Russia ahead of the G7 summit scheduled for May 19-21 in Japan. An export ban can include a number of exceptions. This import “barrier” should not affect medicines, agricultural products and foodstuffs.
For this initiative to take effect, members of the European Union (EU) must adhere to the restrictive measures. Bloomberg points out that the proposal could spark a heated debate, given the likely reaction of companies that still export goods to Russia.
