During his visit to Washington, Colombian President Gustavo Petro told reporters that his administration would not use Russian helicopters and weapons purchased by previous governments in the conflict in Ukraine.
Earlier, the Colombian President met with US President Joe Biden at the White House, where they discussed many important issues including climate change, the fight against drug trafficking and migration. He also spoke in an article in Le Monde newspaper with Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez in favor of stepping up efforts to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine.
In addition, other Latin American leaders have also expressed their position on this issue. Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador condemned Berlin’s decision to send tanks to Ukraine and said it was taken against the will of citizens and under pressure from local media. Brazilian President Luis Inacio da Silva has said his country will not send munitions that could be used in the conflict in Ukraine.
