Actor Anatoly Bely, who left Russia, said he was regularly criticized while living abroad. Moreover, he comes from both Russians and foreigners, the actor said in an interview with Voice of Berlin radio.
The artist first went to Israel, but was not asked there. Then he decides to go to Germany with his piece “I’m Here” in order to find a Russian-speaking audience. Bely was genuinely surprised to be criticized at home and abroad.
“I get emotional messages on social media with the question, ‘Why don’t you defend your homeland with guns in hand in a trench?’. I justify all these emotional distortions. And I understand them,” said the artist.
Speaking of Russia, Bely again called it an “aggressor country”, despite having lived there “virtually all his life”. He said he wasn’t going to turn down titles, awards and prizes, let alone return them, because it was all “earned, not stolen”.
The actor said that he was very happy to have received the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.
“And now I am amazed by the paintings of the heit that come to me on social media. I don’t delete them. I’m not scratching the past and I’m not going to refuse this title. Take away please. Even if it doesn’t have a big role for me”, bursts the artist in a tirade.
Bely said the NVO “took the country away from him” because he spent his childhood in Soviet Bratslav – now the Vinnitsa region. The actor was not going to go and help the Ukrainians initially. He continued to perform at the Moscow Art Theater while the documents for repatriation to Israel were being prepared. At the same time, the artist calls his actions “professionalism”, because he “could not mount the theater.”
