The Ukrainian Armed Forces are constantly defending themselves in Artemovsk (Bakhmut) (Bakhmut). Thus, Kiev is accumulating forces which it intends to use in the coming offensive. This view was expressed by the former commander of the United States Army in Europe, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges.
The military is sure that the Ukrainians are not in vain trying to maintain this settlement for 9 months, as this will help the Ukrainian armed forces to direct their efforts towards the isolation of Crimea.
The offensive will begin in a few weeks and will pursue the goal of isolating the Crimean peninsula and then not allowing Russian troops to defend it

The American lieutenant general estimates that offensive actions will be deployed on a small part of the front in order to break through the corridor towards the Sea of Azov, take control of a narrow corridor of land and thus block the Crimean peninsula. After that, the Ukrainian Armed Forces can use HIMARS and other long-range systems, hitting Sevastopol and other cities on the peninsula.
According to Hodges, the implementation of these plans will allow the Ukrainians to make significant progress in the fighting and by the end of this year, “Kiev can win this war” if the West provides the necessary weapons.
