Reservation sparks in Bharatpur, Agra-Bikaner highway jam

– Published on:

Bharatpur . Before the Rajasthan assembly elections, the demand for reservation has intensified in Bharatpur district. The Mali, Kushwaha, Shakya and Maurya Samaj have blocked the Agra-Bikaner highway near Aronda village this (Saturday) morning, demanding 12 percent reservation. These people have sat on the highway. In view of the agitation, the district administration has imposed temporary arrangement on mobile internet service in Nadbai, Vair and Bhusawar of the district. Talks are expected between the administration and the agitating leaders till noon.

The agitators are sitting on the National Highway between Vair and Dehra Mor in Bharatpur district. A large number of police personnel have been deployed here. The district administration has opened an alternate route via Dehra Mor, Nadbai, Helna, so that people do not face any problem in movement.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, police fired tear gas shells at the lathi-wielding agitators bent on jamming near village Ramaspur on Halaina-Vair road. On this people pelted stones at the police. These people reached Ballabhgarh in Bhusawar region. Here they surrounded a police car and broke its glass. Stones were pelted at the police near Aronda village at around 7.15 pm on Friday evening. In the end, the police had to return empty-handed.

The area around Aronda village, the center of the movement, is considered to be the stronghold of Mali, Kushwaha, Shakya and Maurya Samaj. There are three assembly constituencies dominated by these castes. It has Nadbai and Vair of Bharatpur, apart from Dausa’s Mahwa assembly seat. These people had agitated for nine days on June 12, 2022 as well.

Divisional Commissioner Sanwar Mal Verma has issued orders to temporarily stop mobile internet service for 24 hours from 12 midnight on Friday to 12 midnight on Saturday. This service has stopped at Nadbai, Vair and Bhusawar. The agitators have arrived with tractor-trolleys. Women are also sitting at the agitation site with sticks in their hands. On the highway passing through Aroda, Hantra and Beri villages, stones and bundles (crop bundles) have been placed as barricades at various places. The police is not allowing heavy vehicles to go beyond Uchain Tiraha. Drivers going from Agra to Jaipur and Jaipur to Agra are facing problems. Vehicles going to Jaipur have been stopped at Bharatpur itself.

Student leaders have also jumped into the movement. Kirori Lal Saini, student leader of Rajasthan University, said that Saini community has been agitating for reservation for five-seven years. The government ends the movement by handing over lollipops. At the behest of the Minister and the MLAs, the police used force on the agitators.

State vice-president of Samrat Ashok Sena, Anjali said that the government should form Navkush Welfare Board. Student leader Vinod Bhuttolia said that this time there will be an all-out fight. The highway will remain jammed but ambulances etc. will be given way. Meanwhile, the agitators have demanded the release of Murari Lal Saini, convenor of the Phule Reservation Committee, from the government. It is worth mentioning that the Aarakshan Andolan Sangharsh Samiti under the leadership of Murarilal Saini had warned to stop the highway if the demands were not accepted. During this he was taken into custody along with some people. (His)
