The US Department of Justice said on Friday: “Two men have been convicted of white supremacist conspiracy to attack US electrical substations in hopes of causing civil unrest and economic distress.”

“Christopher Cook, 21, of Columbus, Ohio, was sentenced to 92 months in prison, and Jonathan Frost, 25, of Katy, Texas, and West Lafayette, Indiana, was sentenced to 60 months,” it said. he in a press release. of the Ministry of Justice.

Cook and Frost pleaded guilty in February 2022 to one count of conspiracy to provide material support to extremists. Jackson Sowall of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, was also charged and pleaded guilty in February 2022, but will be sentenced at a later date, according to the Justice Department.

Their plan was to attack the substations with guns, which they said would cause millions of dollars in damage and spark riots, the Justice Department said. However, they never made any attacks.

Recently, in various parts of the country, including North Carolina, Washington State, and South Carolina, there have been reports of damage to energy infrastructure and electrical substations. These incidents left thousands of people without power.

According to the Justice Department, Frost and Cook discussed their fall 2019 plans in an online chat. Within weeks, they recruit accomplices, including Savall.

The Justice Department said that “as part of the process of recruiting accomplices, Cook distributed a list of literature promoting white supremacy and neo-Nazism.”

The three men reportedly met in Columbus, Ohio in February 2020 for training. A planned attack in Ohio was foiled when police accidentally stopped his car.

Cook and Frost “were also trying to recruit minors in Texas for this case,” prosecutors said.
