A yacht with Russians disappeared in the Red Sea. Captain’s wife says she was kidnapped by pirates

A pleasure boat with three Russians on board, leaving the port of the Saudi city of Jizan, disappeared in the Red Sea. On this subject informed TASS in reference to the head of the consular service of the Russian Embassy in Riyadh, Damir Saydyashev.

According to him, on April 17, the 30-minute yacht finished refueling in Jizan. The ship’s owner claims that before that he had visited Port Said, Suez, Hurghada and Jeddah, and from Jizan he was supposed to sail to Djibouti, but disappeared from radar, anchoring near Rumein Island, the same day he left Gizan.

Saidyashev named the names of the Russians on board – these are Roman Kokashinsky, Daniil Vasiliev and Maria Shevtsova. Neither they nor the crew have been in contact for the past week. It is impossible to determine the whereabouts of the yacht due to the disabled transponders of the automatic identification system.

“Although there are no details, the Embassy is in contact with the Saudi Coast Guard. The Search and Rescue Coordination Center in Jeddah has used all available vessels to search for the missing yacht,” said a representative of the Russian diplomatic mission.

Saudi authorities are testing the hypothesis that 30 minutes was captured by pirates attacking ships in the Red Sea along the coasts of Djibouti and Eritrea. However, according to Saydyashev, no confirmation of this version has been found so far.

At the same time, the wife of the captain of the yacht Nadezhda Rasina declared RBC that from Saudi Arabia she was informed about the capture of “30 minutes”. “We received information that the ship was stolen, but we don’t have any detailed information. This information reached Saudi Arabia and we learned from them,” the woman said.

In an interview with RIA Novostithe ship’s captain’s wife declared that the search is “very long due to bureaucracy”, although in such situations “it is important not to waste a single hour”. According to her, the Saudi authorities have not yet provided helicopters or satellite images.

Although the yacht disappeared in the triangle between Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Eritrea, Riyadh should help in the search, because “by current standards” assistance is provided by the country that the missing vessel visited last. In any case, Rasina added, Eritrea does not have the resources to send helicopters and boats, and in Yemen “everything is completely scary due to the situation in the country”.

“The Russian Foreign Ministry, for its part, writes all the calls it can to the embassy, consulate and various organizations. As far as I know, there is no possibility of organizing a search party on your own,” the captain’s wife told 30 Minutes.

TV Channel “Star” Root reported that her husband was hired to transport a yacht, on board of which there was a sailor with his wife. According to the woman, one of the organizations specializing in the release of captives from pirate ships claims that the 30-minute invaders contacted her, but it was not possible to establish contact with them.
