It is estimated that we are talking about the upcoming expulsion of around 3,000 Ukrainians from Cypriot hotels. Initially, the decision to accommodate them free of charge in local hotels provided for refugees with temporary protection status in the EU to be accommodated in hotels for six months.
It should be noted that after the departure of Ukrainians from hotels, they can apply to social security services with applications for subsidies for renting housing. The amount of the subsidies and the criteria for their granting are not named.
According to the publication Philelefteros, the Cypriot Ministry of Tourism is organizing a conference for Cypriot hoteliers who are invited to employ refugees from Ukraine to work in hotels. At the same time, the salary promised to Ukrainians should be comparable to the income of local citizens.
Earlier it became known that the island Republic of Cyprus, in terms of the number of Ukrainian citizens granted refugee status, in terms of the total population, is ahead of all other EU member states (according to Eurostat, in February 2023, 1.1 Ukrainian refugees per 1,000 Cypriots registered in Cyprus).
