The German Foreign Ministry explained the expulsion of Russian diplomats. The department said that the main objective of such a measure on the part of Berlin was to reduce the presence of Russian special services on the territory of Germany, reports the NTV channel.
“Indeed, over the past few weeks, the German government has negotiated with the Russian side regarding the presence of personnel in the relevant foreign policy missions. The aim was to reduce the presence of Russian special services in Germany,” the German Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
At the same time, the German department stressed that it considers the version of the Russian Foreign Ministry to be incorrect. Earlier, the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, said that Germany had warned the Russian Federation in advance of the expulsion of diplomats, but had asked not to talk about it publicly. Nevertheless, the German media reported such plans of the FRG almost a month ago.
