Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Collection of signatures for the restoration of air communication with Russia has begun in Cyprus

The Coordinating Council of Russian Compatriots (CRC) in Cyprus has launched the collection of signatures for the resumption of air traffic with Russia. Flights between the countries were suspended about a year ago, according to the petition.

This did not affect the economy or the political situation in Russia in any way, but it had an extremely negative impact on the Cypriot economy.

“With no direct flights, Cyprus loses 25% of tourist flow due to the absence of Russians,” the petition reads.

During this period, Russia increased the share of domestic tourism, which had a positive impact on its economy and contributed to the growth of investment in the tourism sector. The 52 countries that support direct air communications with the Russian Federation have also benefited from the restrictions. In particular, Turkey has become one of the main beneficiaries.

“We believe that the Cypriot government, by adhering to EU sanctions, has done a great service to Russia and Turkey by acting against the citizens of its own country and causing unacceptable economic damage to the Cypriot economy. We propose to reverse the decision, which has proven ineffective,” the appeal reads.
