Kochi (Kerala). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Kerala today i.e. Monday on a two-day visit, during which he will participate in several programs and hold meetings with senior clergy of the Christian community.
Modi will reach the INS Garuda Naval Air Station in Kochi at around 5 pm and will hold a roadshow from there to the Sacred Heart College ground. As part of preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit, security has been beefed up along the roadshow route and 2,060 police personnel are being deployed in the city. At the college ground, Modi will address a public meeting and also interact with the youth as part of the ‘Yuvam 2023’ programme. It was not mentioned in his program details but senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) confirmed that Modi would hold a meeting with senior clergy of the Christian community after his dialogue with the youth.
Eight prominent senior priests from various churches in the state have been invited to meet the Prime Minister at the Taj Malabar Hotel here. Modi will stay in this hotel. The BJP in Kerala aims to use the Prime Minister’s visit to woo the youth and minorities in its fold. The BJP has projected Yuvam 2023 as an important program in Kerala politics.
Modi’s meeting with church priests is part of the BJP’s “Sneh Yatra” programme. Under this campaign, BJP leaders in Kerala visited the homes of Christian and Muslim leaders and people of these communities on the occasion of Easter and Eid. Last month, buoyed by the BJP’s performance in elections in three northeastern states, including Christian-majority Nagaland and Meghalaya, the prime minister had announced that a party-led alliance would form government in Kerala in the coming years.
The Prime Minister will fly to Thiruvananthapuram airport from INS Garuda on Tuesday morning. In the state capital, he will travel by road to Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station to flag off the Vande Bharat Express train. From there he will proceed to Kerala Central Stadium to participate in various programs and lay the foundation stone of the country’s first Digital Science Park.
