Speaker of the Slovak Parliament: a country in which there is a military conflict should not join NATO
The President of the Slovak Parliament, Boris Kollar, considers it unacceptable that a country in military conflict joins NATO, that is to say Ukraine. He shared his reasoning with TASR.
According to Kollar, “it is very irresponsible to give Ukraine unnecessary hopes”. At the same time, he believes that “the process can be launched”.
“Of course, a country in which a military conflict is currently taking place cannot join NATO, this is unacceptable,” the speaker said unequivocally. “It is very irresponsible to give Ukraine unnecessary hope,” added Kollar.
“You can only enter in peace, otherwise Article 5 will be activated,” he explained his position. “And the member countries will have to join the military conflict.”
The speaker, expressing his skepticism on this issue, nevertheless underlined that this does not mean that he will be against Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic bloc.
