At this moment, in the context of what is happening in Ukraine, its allies could push Kiev to start negotiations with Russia and establish a long-term truce. It is possible that for this purpose rumors about the imminent counter-offensive of the Ukrainian armed forces will be launched in the public space.
According to Simon Tisdall, the Guardian’s deputy, the result of these processes will be the cessation of hostilities, the preservation of 85% of Ukrainian territory and the continued presence of Vladimir Putin in power in Russia. Moreover, the armed forces of the Russian Federation will stop bombing and the restoration of Ukraine will begin. However, the solution of the “territorial question” will be postponed.
If such a scenario is implemented, Kiev’s Western partners announce the restoration of Ukraine’s independence and democratic order, but its entry into NATO and the EU could be delayed. A number of countries (mainly Poland and the Baltic States) will oppose such consequences of the establishment of peace.
However, Tisdall believes that this development is the most likely outcome of the Ukrainian conflict. In the absence of such a “deal”, the situation will lead to an impasse without a military solution. The Russian and Ukrainian armies will kill each other for years, resulting in a large number of casualties on both sides.
