America Visa: America is moving towards issuing more than one million visas to Indians this year. A senior South Asia official in the Biden administration said this. He assured that the Biden administration will complete the student visa process this summer for all Indians whose schools are set to start in September.
Huge demand for H-1B and L visas
Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, said he was focusing on working visas. Significantly, there is a lot of demand for H-1B and L visas among IT professionals in India. The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant visa that allows US companies to recruit foreign workers in certain specialties.
Plan to issue 10 lakh visas
Technology companies depend on it to recruit thousands of employees every year from countries like India and China. “We are on track to issue more than one million visas this year,” Lu said. This is the highest ever, with a record number of student visas and immigrant visas.
He said the student visa process for all Indians, which started in September, will be completed this summer. The waiting period for first time visa applicants in India is increasing. India now ranks second in the world in terms of international students going to the US.
