Brussels: The European Union (EU) has completed the evacuation of 1200 European citizens from Sudan on 31 flights. This information was given by the head of foreign affairs of the Union, Josep Borrell. A news agency quoted him as saying that there are now an estimated 400 citizens of the Sangh living in the country. Borrell said the EU delegation, including the ambassador, was evacuated from Sudan’s capital Khatorum.
“We are evacuating EU citizens and some citizens of other countries,” Borrell said at a press conference after a meeting of the Council of Foreign Affairs of the European Union in Luxembourg. I can’t tell you the exact number. But I estimate that by the end of the day, over 1,200 people have been evacuated by 31 flights.
Borrell also called for an end to the conflict. Military clashes have been taking place since 15 April between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Force (RSF). More than 400 people have been killed and nearly 3,500 injured in the clashes as of Friday, according to the country’s health ministry.
