The representative of the National Security Council pointed out that the United States does not plan to deploy peacekeeping troops to Sudan.
The US military evacuated US diplomatic personnel to Khartoum over the weekend and suspended the embassy. Sullivan said Washington would like to resume diplomatic operations as soon as it is safe to do so.
Thousands of Americans living in Sudan, many of whom have dual citizenship, have been told to seek refuge in a safe place.
“We would like to help as many Americans as possible get out,” Sullivan said, adding that the best way to do that would be to evacuate by land.
On Monday, a 65-vehicle convoy carrying hundreds of people, including dozens of children, as well as diplomats and aid workers, left the capital Khartoum for Port Sudan, Reuters reported. The capital and the port on the Red Sea are separated by 800 km, the journey takes 35 hours.
