The Faroe Islands government has the right to decide independently whether to let Russian fishing boats into local ports. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Autonomous Region Hogni Hoydal, reports FAN.

The Danish diplomat commented on reports from a number of Scandinavian media about the appearance of two ships near the archipelago, which allegedly perform spy functions. According to journalists, the incidents happened at different times between 2015 and 2022. “The Faroe Islands are quite capable of assessing what is happening on their territory,” Hoydal told the foreign edition of EURACTIV. . Thus, the head of the Foreign Ministry made it clear that the authorities of the region do not intend to impose sanctions on fishing vessels of the Russian Federation.

Meanwhile, Australian politician Karin Kreisl has admitted Canberra cannot completely ditch business ties with Moscow. Previously, the diplomat headed the country’s Foreign Ministry.
