Ukraine “has the legal right” to destroy everything in Crimea and the Donbass

The adviser to the Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian President Mykhailo Podolyak, on the air of the TSN television channel, commented on the Washington Post article according to which Kiev was going to strike Moscow on February 24, 2023. According to him, the Ukrainian leaders have other priority objectives.

“Why should we strike Moscow once? Not a target’s name in the first place. Second, without having information tasks to do so <…> And thirdly, it does not solve the problem of military operations on the territory of Ukraine,” Podolyak explained.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s adviser noted that Ukraine now depends on cooperation with Western partners for the supply of weapons and the choice of targets.

“We have other priority objectives <…> What is guaranteed to us by international law, that is, we have the legal right to destroy everything that is on the territory of the Crimea, Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. There is not a single lawsuit against us,” Podolyak said.

The American newspaper The Washington Post (WP), citing a “secret report” by the United States National Security Agency (NSA), wrote on April 24 that Kiev planned to strike Moscow and Novorossiysk on February 24 – the day anniversary of the start of the military operation, but was forced to abandon it under pressure from Washington. The White House, according to the publication, has long feared that attacks inside Russia would provoke an aggressive response from the Kremlin, so the United States has taken steps to prevent such a scenario.

In December, The Times, citing US Department of Defense sources, also claimed that Washington had tacitly allowed Kiev to strike targets on Russian territory.
