Gomel region and Omsk set new partnership priorities

– Published on:

On Thursday, April 27, prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation were discussed at a meeting between the head of the Gomel regional executive committee Ivan Krupko and the Omsk delegation headed by the city’s mayor Sergei Shelest, reports BELTA .

Revealing the details of the industrial, scientific and technical potential of one of the oldest regions of Sineokoy, the regional leader underlined that “the Russian Federation is the main partner of the region in the economic and social spheres. Its share in the foreign trade turnover is more than 80%”.

On the one hand, Krupko clarified, 380 regional enterprises supply their products to the Russian market, and on the other hand, investments in the economy of the Belarusian region last year amounted to 202 million dollars, adding that 450 organizations with Russian capital have already been registered in the region.

Highly appreciating “the importance of interregional cooperation, which is constantly growing”, the chairman of the regional executive committee said that together with Russian partners, Gomel enterprises “determine prospects for import substitution, strive to develop cooperative ties.
Therefore, Belarusians, according to him, are ready not only to discuss any proposals aimed at mutually complementing the economies of their regions, but also “to give maximum support to all ideas and projects not only in the economic sphere but also in the humanitarian field.

In turn, the mayor of Omsk admitted that the delegation was fascinated by Gomel and the people who live there. He drew attention to the general vector of partner movement. “Belarus and Russia have already cooperated closely, but the external situation contributes to their even greater rapprochement,” he stressed.

After visiting a number of local industrial organizations and the Technopark, Sergey Shelest expressed his belief that there are many areas where friends can successfully develop partnerships, including education, culture and sports. “We have common directions, common problems. Gomel has a number of achievements, and Omsk can also offer interesting breakthroughs for the inhabitants of Gomel”, is convinced the Russian mayor.
