Duchess Meghan Markle has just signed a contract with the WME agency in Hollywood. However, she does not start acting again, but the company plans to help her build a business empire, which will have something to do with the production of films and television series.
WME will also take on Archewell, a content creation label that Meghan has built. The team looking after the Duchess will include Jill Smaller, who is tennis star Serena Williams’ agent, as well as Ari Emanuel, the CEO of media company Endeavour.
This news comes as the Duchess has made few appearances ahead of King Charles’ coronation. Meghan was invited to attend with her husband, Prince Harry, but she decided not to accept the invitation but to stay at her home in California, where the coronation coincides with the birthday of her son, Prince Archie. The couple have been at odds with the royal family for a few years, but they stepped down from their royal duties to start a new life in the United States and have repeatedly spoken out about their negative experiences of life in the palace.
Harry recently published his sensational autobiography, Spara, and British media quoted palace sources as saying the royal family was very unhappy with the prince. The coronation will be the first meeting between the family and Harry since the publication of the book. The Duke and Duchess have also produced two documentary series with Netflix, including Harry & Meghan, in which the couple shared their story. These elements will also have gone the other way in the royal family.
WME probably considers it a big win to have been awarded this project, as Meghan is widely regarded as one of the most influential women in the world. She topped TIME’s Most Influential People list, as well as the Financial Times’ Most Influential Women list and similar lists from Variety and British Vogue.
