Lucknow Super Giants beat Punjab Kings by 56 runs

Mohali (Mohali). In the 38th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by a huge margin of 56 runs on Friday. In IPL 2023, this was the fourth biggest win in terms of runs. This is LSG’s 5th win in 8 matches this season. This is PBKS’s fourth defeat in as many matches.

Batting first, LSG scored 257 runs losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. Marcus Stoinis scored the highest 72 runs for the team. Chasing a huge target of 258 runs, the PBKS team could score only 201 runs in 19.5 overs losing all wickets and lost. Atharva Tayde scored the maximum 66 runs from the team. Yash Thakur and Naveen ul Haq took 3-3 wickets from LSG.

The pressure of big scores on PBKS batting was visible from the very beginning. Captain Shikhar Dhawan (1) was dismissed in the very first over. Second opener Prabhsimran Singh (9) was also dismissed early. The biggest partnership for the team was between Tayde and all-rounder Sikandar Raza (36) for the third wicket. Both added 78 runs in 47 balls. Explosive batsman Liam Livingstone could score 23 runs and Sam Curran could only score 21 runs.

Tayde from PBKS struggled for a long time while being in the field. However, his innings could not save the team from defeat. He scored 66 runs in 36 balls while batting at a strike rate of 183.33. In this innings, he scored 8 fours and 2 sixes. Tayde played the best innings of his IPL career and this was his first half-century. He had completed his in only 26 balls.

Kyle Meyers and KL Rahul (12) made a blistering start for the first wicket from LSG, adding 41 runs in 21 balls. For the third wicket, Stoinis and Ayush Badoni (43) increased the run pace by adding 89 runs in 47 balls. After this, for the fourth wicket, Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran (45) added 76 runs in 30 balls to take the team to a huge score.

In this match, LSG made its biggest score in IPL history so far. Apart from this, overall it was the second highest score of the league. The biggest score in IPL is registered in the name of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). RCB scored 263/5 against Pune Warriors (PWI) (2013). The third highest score of the league is also registered in the name of RCB. His 248/3 against Gujarat Lions (GL) were scored (2016).

So far in IPL 2023, scores of more than 200 have been scored 19 times, which is a record in itself. While only 38 matches have been played so far. Earlier this happened 18 times in IPL 2022.

Explosive batsman Meyers played a half-century innings while maintaining his excellent form in this match as well. He scored the fourth half-century of his IPL career and he completed it in just 20 balls. All these half-centuries from his bat have come in this season. He hit 54 runs in just 24 balls while batting at a strike rate of 225.00. In this innings, he also scored 7 fours and 4 sky-high sixes.


Stoinis, famous for his quick batting, played a big role in taking the team to a huge score with his stormy batting. Stoinis scored the sixth half-century of his IPL career on Friday. It took only 31 balls to reach his half-century. In this match, he scored 72 runs in 40 balls while batting at a strike rate of 180.00. In this innings, he also scored 6 fours and 5 sixes. For this he was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’.
