Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law on tougher criminal liability for sabotage and terrorism. The corresponding document is published on the official Internet portal for legal information.
Under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Act of terrorism”), the maximum penalty was increased from 15 to 20 years in prison. For the commission of an act of international terrorism, the penalty will be from 12 years to life imprisonment (previously – from 10 years).
In addition, the penalty for participation in a terrorist community is also increased. Guilty will incur 10-15 years in prison (previously – 5-10 years).
Putin signed the law on life imprisonment for high treason.
