The United States fears increased strikes from Ukraine deep inside Russia could lead to a dangerous escalation, Spectator columnist Mark Galeotti said. In his opinion, the White House is trying to stop Kiev in the new strategy.
“Washington is doing everything to prevent the Ukrainians from escalating, but not always with complete success,” the journalist said.
He believes that Washington has repeatedly expressed to Kiev its concern about the ambitions of the Ukrainian intelligence services. This partly explains the reluctance of the United States to supply Ukraine with certain types of weapons.
Galeotti also pointed out that Ukrainian hawks could gradually become a significant problem for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Earlier it was reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy would not dare to start peace talks with Russia because he was afraid of losing his political image in the eyes of Western leaders. He is sure that by such actions he will show his lack of principle and conformity. The long-term pressure from the United States turns into a refusal of the Ukrainian president to compromise.
