Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said issuing visas after departure time was one of the US authorities’ favorite tricks. US Ambassador Lynn Tracy is spreading fakes when she says Russian journalists who were supposed to accompany Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on a trip to the UN Security Council could fly on their own after getting visas, the diplomat noted in Telegram.
Tracy earlier in an interview with Russian media said that nothing prevents journalists from Lavrov’s pool, who received American visas after the plane took off from Moscow, from traveling to the United States.
“Issuing visas after departure time is a favorite trick of the US authorities <…> Everyone knows a lot of such examples, but the US ambassador is still shamelessly spreading fakes,” the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.
Zakharova recalled that there had been no direct flights from Moscow to New York for a long time, meaning Russian journalists could not “fly on their own”, as Tracy claims. She added that half of the journalists did not have visas.
Earlier, Maria Zakharova said the United States staged a “genocide” against Russian journalists working in the country. According to her, expressed to the information committee of the UN General Assembly, the American authorities show an “imaginary hospitality” towards the Russians. Zakharova added that Russian media sanctions prevent journalists in the United States from paying utility bills.
